VPP Services now available from Ubuntu Tamil Team

June 29, 2007

Several months back we launched the local ship-it scheme and we got a good response.

Now we are happy to announce the Value Payable Post (VPP) Services for Ubuntu CDs.

CDs will now also be shipped to users across Tamil Nadu, India for Rs 150/ CD. We also have decided to ship it across India for a value of Rs 200/ CD.

One can pay the value to post-man and grab the Ubuntu CDs.

Within TamilNadu, We will continue to offer Ubuntu CDs under existing Local Ship it subject availability of funds, as it has been the case.

One of the intentions for this move is to make the users feel, Free as in Freedom.

If you are in TamilNadu and is need of Ubuntu CDs, mail your request with your address and mode of CD delivery i.e., VPP or Gratis to amachu@ubuntu.com

Your choice to get Ubuntu CDs through VPP will help us grow in future too.

Software freedom day..

June 24, 2007

mmm.. Our Independence day falls on 15 Aug 07. And exactly one month after comes the Software freedom day.

What plans do we have this time? also the first time!

We have formed a Chennai Team and we are thinking of bringing people together on this event to create awareness on software freedom and its importance.

Primary focus need to be on education and we should knock schools with edubuntu at hands. 😉

Then the college students.. users.. educational institutions.. trainers.. LUG enthusiasts and all.. Where and when? we need to decide..

and incidentally this year  marks the 150th anniversary of our first war of independence  😉

GNU – now sprouting in Tamil…

June 15, 2007

We all know its all happening today cos of GNU and its vision some twenty years before..

In an attempt to make available the contents of GNU website to Tamil we also took the responsibility of translating its web-site to Tamil.

Here is our first success: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/not-ipr.ta.html

above all it’s the GNU’s philosophy that has led to this great revolution. Glad that we have started taking it to our masses in our Language..

The road ahead..

June 12, 2007

It has been a year since we started our Tamil Team. It was a matter of survival for us as we got stringent comments from across corners.

And today we have proved that we have survived despite all that. Looking ahead we have huge amount of quality translation work pending before us.

One good thing is that we hold responsibility of KDE localization also.

Will a day be blessed with 48 hours! 😉

Practice powerful than knowledge..

June 6, 2007

“Knowledge is power”, Indeed! But to put the knowledge acquired, however smaller they may be is more powerful.

This has been the experience of mine over the past one year into the Planet of Ubuntu.

Well, hardly few weeks after first successful Ubuntu installation, was searching for a LoCo Team to cater to our needs.

Had very little usage knowledge of GNU/ Linux, but felt thats definitely more to serve thousands without it.

Sowed the seeds of Ubuntu Tamil Team. And today we have sprouted well. Thanks to Ubuntu. Thanks everybody.

Knowledge not put to practice is knowledge unknown.

Hello Planet!

June 5, 2007

Hi Planet,

It has been a year since we sowed our dreams as Ubuntu Tamil Team. Days have gone like a flash. And we feel satisfied after a year of existance.

We began as translators and we have sprouted into multiple dimensions like user support in Tamizh, KDE Localisation, Shipping CDs locally etc.,
We have learnt a lot in this short period of one year and we have big dreams to come in future. We are hoping for the best and wishes from all corners.

Cheers..
